Flora: Plant-life
The dumbo octopus lives in one of the deepest parts of the aphotic zone, After reaching about 1,000 meters below sea level, sunlight no longer penetrates the water and all that remains is darkness. Photosynthesis can’t occur without sunlight, so therefore there is no plant-life in their habitat.
Fauna: Animal-life
Although there may not be plant-life on the ocean floor, there are other animals that the umbrella octopus interacts with. A few examples include:
- Holothuria edulis (red sea cucumber)
- Riftia pachyptila (giant tube worm)
- Alloclavaria purpurea (purple coral)
- Relicanthus daphneae (a monotypic cnidarian resembling a sea anemone)
- Mesocentrotus franciscanus (red sea urchin)
